Parachute is a bakery, deli and farm-to-table restaurant located in the paddy fields of Berawa, Bali. With an emphasis on locally grown, seasonal produce, its menu showcases honest cooking to be enjoyed in an open-air setting.
The kitchen is located at the heart of the venue, and views in are filtered through open-shelf displays of fresh bread and produce. Along the length of the floor customers can choose from the day’s offerings of pastries, salads and prepared dishes, displayed in cases fashioned from reclaimed furniture.
The venue’s namesake, a reclaimed sixty-four foot cargo Parachute, floats over the centre of an outdoor lounge deck, providing shade from the tropical sun. The deck is anchored at its centre by an island bar, above which an eight-meter high mast holds up the Parachute at its apex.
The Outdoor Kitchen, with its brick oven and open-fire grill, sets a dramatic backdrop to the dining area, elevated on a timber deck looking over the organic farm, and rice paddies beyond.
ZXC Studio worked in collaboration with artist Gabriel Korty to design the Parachute set up, as well as the motifs and artworks in the venue. A photographer, sculptor and woodworker, Gabriel is a co-founder of the community arts project Parachute Days, held in in Point Reyes Station, California.
